Quality assurance in production of fuel elements
The task:
Nuclear fuel elements as "fuel" for nuclear power plants are subject to high quality standards and narrow tolerances in their production. All quality assurance data generated during production is managed in a central quality database. A new, computer-aided solution to supervise the dimensional accuracy of the fuel elements is to be integrated into this existing system.
The solution:
The interfaces to the existing equipment, such as stepper motors, pneumatically controlled displacement transducers and strain gauges were implemented in a C-module which abstracts from the hardware and provides the database module in the database language "Magic" with complete movement patterns for recording the measurement readings and with reliably calibrated measurement readings. Based on this interface, an intuitive prompting facility was integrated in the existing and new parts of the quality database.
