Transmission behaviour of hydrophonesThe task: The transmission behaviour (output voltage and sound pressure for one frequency range) was to be determined numerically for a hydrophone (underwater microphone). The hydrophone consists of a metallic carrier, a piezoceramic sensor and a plastic covering. The solution: The hydrophone was first reproduced as a finite element model on the computer and then subjected to an eigenvalue analysis. Indications of constructional changes already arose at this stage as eigenfrequencies in the recording area disturbed the transmission function due to resonance properties. With the eigensolution as basis, a steady state response calculation was carried out in the frequency range of interest. The mechanical distortion of the elements served as measure for the tension caused by the piezoceramics. In spite of these oversimplified assumptions, experiment results conformed well with the numerical results. |
