Simulation of the use of tools in workroom with multi-spindle automatic lathesThe task: Multi-spindle automatic lathes are lathes for mass-produced parts which permit the parallel processing of individual production steps. For this purpose, the pieces are arranged on a revolver, fed in circular order to the individual tools and processed. With the aid of a simulation, piece rate and costs are to be optimised. The selection and sequence problems of tool use were a special challenge, as well as the problems with the collision of tools and holders of various spindle positions. The solution: The multi-spindle automatic lathe was implemented as dynamic computer model which permitted both a close-to-reality graphic display as well as a precise collision observation of the individual parts. Characteristic production specifications for tool selection are obtained from a technology database. The user is therefore in a position to check within a fraction of a second the effects of his design decisions with regard to the optimisation specifications. The movement of the machine is displayed photo-realistically. In the course of a further development, an automated, computer-aided optimisation of the machine layout is to be carried out. |
