Speedy acquisition of time series with simultaneous computers
The task:
At different speeds (up to 200 Kbyte/s), PCM-coded data from a test field for wind power plants reach a measuring centre in which they are converted digitally. The data is to be recorded continually for later online evaluation in order to be able to immediately recognise any mismeasurements. The data is accompanied by control signals which describe validity and cyclical recurrence.
The solution:
A computer is set up on the basis of a VME bus system and equipped with the interface cards necessary for data collection. The system software adapts itself automatically to the data rate and other specific measuring parameters. The incoming data is written continuously on magnetic disc. Immediately following the measurement, the user has statistical parameters at his disposal to judge the quality of the data. In a further comparable application, the data is recorded in a parallel network of transputers. One can thus obtain continuous data rates of more than 1 Mbyte/s for recording, on-line evaluation and saving on the hard-disk. By means of a standard interface, the data is passed on for visualisation on a PC.
