Operator workstations for motorway emergency telephonesThe task: Motorway emergency telephones are switched to one central telephone computer. Incoming emergency calls are to be dealt with via several workstation computers with graphical user interface. The solution: Operator workstations - consisting of one networked PC running under MS Windows and a telephone -are connected with and control the telephone computer. A map downloaded from a database is shown on the workstations. Active emergency telephones are shown on the map with a status indication. One can therefore see at a glance whether the call concerns an accident or a breakdown. Inquiries can then be made to a geographically oriented database regarding the nearest workshop, the emergency service responsible and the doctor on duty, etc. When entering the details, the operator is supported context-sensitively with defaults. Each incident is recorded in full, stored in a database, printed out on request and integrated in a statistical evaluation. As the workstations are group workstations, the incidents can be passed on to colleagues at the touch of a button and brought to conclusion there. The allocation in the database is managed automatically. The system itself recognises any failure of the emergency telephones and indicates this. Communication with the telephone computer is also under continual supervision. In addition, the respective status of the emergency telephones can be indicated on an LED wall chart with the aid of an additional circuit specially developed for this purpose.
